The Lambs, Inc., is America's oldest professional theatrical club. It was established in London in 1868 and in Manhattan in 1874; incorporated in the State of New York in 1877. During our 140+ year history The Lambs® has had many homes and, in 1905, erected its own clubhouse at 130 West 44th Street in Manhattan, designed by famed architect Stanford White. At its 44th Street clubhouse The Lambs, Inc. (often referred to as The Lambs club, or simply The Lambs® ) flourished producing many plays and programs rising into prominence within American Theater history. Lerner and Loewe first met at the The Lambs® ; Stalag 17 and Mark Twain Tonight were first produced in The Lambs' in-house theater.
The Lambs vacated its historically protected building in 1974, and has resided at 3 West 51st Street in Manhattan since 1975 where it remains a vibrant theater club and continues its historic journey.
The Lambs, Inc. is not the Lamb's Theater, nor related to the Church of the Nazarene or its Manhattan Initiative, or any other religious organization. The Lambs is not related to the Lamb's Players Theater in San Diego. The Lambs Foundation Inc., is not related to the Church of the Nazarene or any of its charitable groups, including its Friends of the Lambs.
The Lambs has not been purchased by the Chatwal Hotel group, and their restaurant is in no way connected with our organization. The Stanford White building on 44th Street has been gutted, remodeled and now a Chatwal Hotel. Within that hotel there is a restaurant and bar called The Lambs Club Restaurant. As part of a legal agreement between The Lambs, Inc., that restaurant requires they prominently post a disclaimer in their restaurant, and in any and all advertisements, flyers and web sites, stating clearly that they are not The Lambs, Inc..

The Lambs has never gone out of business, nor licensed or franchised its name, nor granted anyone permission to use its trademarked name, nor been affiliated with the Church of the Nazarene or other organization, nor operated as "The Lamb's Theater" nor as the Friends of The Lamb's.
The Lambs, Inc., has never been purchased by another entity, and is proud if its 140+ years of
uninterrupted existence serving its membership, which was recognized by New York
City Mayor Michael Bloomberg marking the anniversary of our 1877 incorporation date on May 9, 2007.
Our organization continues its legacy as a private club for professionals of the entertainment
industry.
